The Secret I Kept In My Marriage

My husband and I have been married for over two decades. We have a son and he's our only son. But he's not my husband's.I know you might be wondering how or you might be calling me names but wait till you hear my story.

I met Isaac Buxton at a UNICEF program in Geneva, Switzerland. He was representing his institution and I was also representing mine. He was sitting next to me and he was really charming  and adorable. He was six feet tall, with his immaculate suit and a cute spectacle on. 

Before I had come from Ghana to the Switzerland, I had in mind to never leave the same - I wanted to get hooked. I was fed up with the single life. "How can a beautiful, fair and a gorgeous looking lady like me never get a boyfriend left alone a husband. This is surely gonna be my time," I kept saying to myself.

I just couldn't wait to see myself hooked up with a foreign diplomat. I was imagining how my children would look like. Mulatto if possible or a white-skinned if luck finds me. I know I'm really not lucky many a time, but this time round, I was really hoping to be lucky.

Upon entering the Conference Hall, I was ushered to sit next to Isaac. As I approached to sit next to him, he welcomed me with a warm handshake and I really do remember those words he said to me consequently. "My lady, how on earth have I never met such a beautiful lady like you? You are glowing." He kept holding my hands  and though I felt blushing, I asked him if he could "release my hands, please." But you know what, inwardly I wish he could hold it forever, but I had to behave as a lady would. I really felt like giving him a minute's kiss instantly though, but I  dare not.  

As he welcomed me to my seat next to him, he softly mentioned his name as Isaac and wittingly said "Isaac,  son of God's friend, Abraham, and you are?" I giggled and I, for the first time, felt I'd found the right person. "My prince charming, please don't just let this be a nine day wonder. I want you to come see my parents," I whispered to myself. I was gazing at him for seconds till I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was him, "You didn't tell me your name," he said quietly. "Sorry, I was thinking of my close friend whom I received a phone call from Ghana that she'd just passed on," I responded sorrowfully. I knew I was lying about that, but like we ladies always do, I had no option. "I'm Rebecca, Becky for short." "So sorry, for your loss. Please accept my condolences, "he said. "Ladies and gentlemen may I have your attention, please, as we commence today's Conference?" The program's facilitator alerted." Our love atmosphere had to be halted for the time being as we awaited the closure of the Conference. 

"Today 'na' today. At long last, a brave man has finally approached this beautiful lady. "Please Mr. Asare, it's a yes from me. If you want my reply, then it's a yes." I whispered to myself as I stared at him secretly. He was busily focusing on the Speaker of the Conference and wouldn't even have time 'mpo' for me. "I love you Isaac. Isaac plus Rebecca is gonna be Jacob and Esau." I jokingly said to my self.

A lot of questions run through my mind but I ignored them all. I didn't want to give up on this man. Never. But this question kept echoing, "You hardly know this man you just met few hours ago. What makes you think he's gonna be the right man?" " You voice of satan, I bind you. Witches from my mother's hometown, you shall not prevail against me. I bind any voice of the enemy in my mind. In fact, get thee behind me, satan." I kept binding everything.

You know what, I should have loosed them rather. 

Isaac proposed just as I wanted for myself. We got married in Ghana since he was a fante from Ghana and not a foreigner as I thought. I was surprised to have heard he was a fante since he looked British in all his ways. But all I wanted was a wedding,  what else matters? Nothing! The wedding was second to none. I mean you could imagine. The set-up of the event grounds, the guests, the meals served and all the things you can think about. Not forgetting the Limousine we sat in. Yeah, Limousine in 1999. 'This one 'dieer' you must think far.'

But something occurred during the wedding eve. My husband has a close friend, Thomas, whom he considers as a brother. He revealed a secret that Isaac is impotent though he was wealthy. As we were chatting all alone in the living room, whilst Isaac entertained the other guests outside, there were some minutes of silent in the room. Thomas and I felt both felt shy to look at each other but before we could realize, we've broken the silent with a kiss. We kissed again and again and 'bam', we ended in the bed room. You know what happened right.  I couldn't tell Isaac about it since I desperately wanted to marry to earn society's respect and appraisal.

When we got married, Isaac never touched me for about three weeks though  I insisted we made love together. He only gave flimsy excuses. But one night, I forced him into bed only for him to confirm the news Thomas broke to me. He justified himself by saying that he's seeing a doctor and that he only has low sperms count but he could satisfy a woman. Assuring me that everything would be fine. Could you imagine?  Would be fine? For how long would I wait. 'Nonsense-ability'. Am I gonna live the rest of my life with an impotent man. What have I done. What would society that I tried to please say about me. As I pondered over these questions, he interfered, "Won't you say anything?"  "Don't worry my dear husband. God knows best. He does miracles in his own time." I responded. I knew what to do. 'Abi' you know 'dada'. Ladies have always got a plan  B." I made sure he released his semen into me so he would think he got me pregnant by a miracle. 

Yep, I got pregnant though. But you know the pregnancy is not his, right? It's certainly for Thomas. After giving birth to Anthony, Thomas and I secretly wanted to confirm the true father of the baby so we had a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test and the results matched with that of Thomas'.

Till date, my husband still thinks Anthony is his child. He believes Anthony is a miracle from God. Funny him.

Did I do right by not telling him I had sex with his close friend. Did I do right by not informing him for over two decades that his son is really not his son. I should have tested the car before taking it home, right? And erhm, is sex before marriage good or bad?
