The Maritime and Dockworkers’ Union (MDU) of the Trades Union Congress (Ghana) has asked employers in the industry to adequately provide the necessary precautionary measures to employees to ensure the workers are fully protected from COVID-19.
In a press statement signed by its General Secretary, Daniel Owusu-Koranteng, of which Pex News has a copy, the Union urged employers to rely only on official sources for information on the coronavirus disease.

Response plans
The Union provided some response plans to employers including but not limited to:
- Providing the right Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE) to workers who are at risk of contracting the virus
- Provide infrastructure for teleworking
- Develop policy for remote work among others.
Outbreak
In November 2019, China recorded it's first case of Corona virus. Consequently killing most of the infected people. Since then, Corona virus has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), advising countries to take precautionary measures to tackle the issue.
The virus, which is now a pandemic, has infected at least 128,343 people across the world and killed 4,702 with 68,324 people reported to have recovered after contracting the virus.
The government of Ghana has since suspended all social gatherings including but not limited to religious and sporting events as well as political rallies for four weeks. All school activities from the basic level to the universities are all suspended till further notice.
