Ps. Mensa Otabil, Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) has urged everyone to put their trust in Jesus for he is the only savior of the world to this COVID-19 pandemic.
This he said when delivering his sermon on Palm Sunday service - a day set aside by Christians to commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem - in an empty auditorium though aired online.
Dr. Otabil was teaching on the theme, "This is Jesus" with a main scripture reference from Matthew 21:9-10.
As part of ICGC Sunday teachings, Dr. Otabil led online viewers and listeners through the ICGC 2020 Excellence declaration. A copy is found below.
He reiterated that governments, scientists , wealth and even the church could not save the world from this pandemic and people are crying for a savior.
"With all our scientific developments and advancements ... we can't deal with a tiny virus in front of us, " he said adding that, " the government of the United States, government of Russia, government of China, the United Kingdom and Germany... who are supposed to be rulers of the world don't know what to even do."
"Wealth has failed us. The church has failed us and we can't say hossana (save us now) to the church because it can't save us."
"...The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is oppressing the world and we don't know who should save us." He, therefore, called on everyone to put their trust and hope in Jesus for he is the only savior.
Introducing Jesus to the world, the renowned author of countless books explained that Jesus is Lord, a servant, a Prophet and a Savior as well.
Jesus is Lord because he owns everything including humans and his purpose overrules all arguments. He also have servants who do his will.
Jesus is a servant because he is the only king who seeks for his people. He's also merciful to them and his mercy is unfathomable and inexplicable.
Dr. Otabil further added that Jesus being a Prophet means that Jesus chose his actions in line with prophecy. Whatever Jesus did was based on prophecies from the Bible - from his birth to his death to his resurrection and ascension are all prophetic.
He, consequently, said Jesus is a savior because he saves people from their sins, their sickness and infirmities and even their personal mistakes adding that Jesus is the only who restores hope to the neglected.
According to Dr. Otabil all these among others make Jesus the only savior to the world in this unfortunate difficult period of human life adding that Jesus has always been the savior of the world saving humanity from danger and this would also be the right time for humanity to call on him for salvation.
He, however, cautioned people especially Christians that going to church and giving offerings and tithes do not guarantee full knowledge and acceptance of Jesus, adding that not even having your pastor or church at heart demonstrates ones acceptance of Jesus. He advised that they have daily fellowship with Jesus and follow his instructions as well.
