The youth wing of the Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC -Ghana ) held its second Regular Quadrennial Delegates Conference at the PUWU Conference and Hospitality Centre at Kasoa in the Central Region on Friday.
In attendance were the National Leaders of the Union, Executives of the PUWU youth, the PUWU Youth Council and Committee members , Executives of the TUC National Youth Committee, affiliate Youth Desk Officers of the TUC, among others.
The Guest Speaker, Mrs. Mary Karimu, an astute policy analyst, advised the delegates to continually upgrade themselves with education with the least opportunity they had. She added that, the youth should also abreast themselves with trade unionism and not consider it as the job for the aged only.
Addressing the Youth Committee, General Secretary of the Union, Mr. Michael Adumatta Nyantakyi, reiterated that a Union that is united can never be defeated. He explained that when the youth are united in their various workplaces, even in the times of hardships, they would still survive, adding that management wouldn't be able to persuade them to be divided.
The Chairman for the TUC National Youth Committee, Mr. John Doe, urged the youth to "be the change they want to see in the world." He added that the youth need to consider themselves significant in the affairs of the Union, for they are the future of the union.
The Delegates Conference subsequently elected new executives who would steer the affairs of the youth wing for the next quadrennial and were sworn into office by the National First Vice Chairman of the Union.
