PUWU Youth Organises Delegates Conference



The youth wing of the Public Utility Workers Union  (PUWU) of the Trades Union Congress  (TUC -Ghana ) held its second Regular Quadrennial Delegates Conference at the PUWU Conference and Hospitality Centre at Kasoa in the Central Region on Friday.

In attendance were the National Leaders of the Union, Executives of the PUWU youth, the PUWU Youth Council and  Committee members , Executives of the TUC National Youth Committee,  affiliate  Youth Desk Officers  of the TUC,  among others. 

The Guest Speaker, Mrs. Mary Karimu, an astute policy analyst, advised the delegates to continually upgrade themselves with education with the least opportunity they had. She added that, the youth should also abreast themselves with trade unionism and not consider it as  the job for the aged only. 


Addressing the Youth Committee, General Secretary of the Union, Mr. Michael  Adumatta Nyantakyi, reiterated that a Union that is united can never be defeated.  He explained that when the youth are united in their various workplaces,  even in the times of hardships, they would still survive, adding that management wouldn't be able to persuade them to be divided. 

The Chairman for the TUC National Youth Committee, Mr. John Doe, urged the youth to "be the change they want to see in the world." He added that the youth need to consider themselves significant in the affairs of the Union, for they are the future of the union. 

The Delegates Conference subsequently elected new executives who would steer the affairs of the youth wing for the next quadrennial and were sworn into office by the National First Vice Chairman of the Union.

 Speaking on behalf of the newly elected  executives, the Chairman expressed his profound gratitude to the Leadership of the Union and the Committee for electing them, adding that the new executives would continue to work hard to help the union achieve its aims.

Coronavirus: Government of Ghana to spend GHS 1 Billion on electricity reliefs

The government will spend a little over GHS 1 billion over the next three months on relief for electricity consumers amid the economic slowdown from the novel coronavirus pandemic.  About 87 percent of the Ghanaian population on 4.8 million metres who have access to the national grid are in line to benefit from these reliefs, according to the Energy Minister, Peter Amewu. The government is fully absorbing electricity bills for lifeline consumers; persons who consume 0 to 50 kilowatt-hours per month. The other categories of consumers will enjoy a 50 percent discount within the same period. Addressing a press conference on Thursday morning, Mr. Amewu gave a breakdown of the reliefs with the Electricity of Ghana (ECG) accounting for most of the beneficiaries. I CHARGE FOR THE SHOWS I PLAY - GOSPEL MUSICIAN REVEALS

Ace Ghanaian Gospel Artist, Daniel Agyin known in the music industry as Goldmann , says he charges for the shows he plays. Daniel Agyin a.k.a Goldmann Speaking in an interview on Adoa TV and monitored by PEX NEWS , Goldmann disclosed that he charges fees for any event he features in outside the church. "When an event Organizer invites me to participate and minister in their event, I charge them. This is because I believe their main focus is to make money, as such I also charge them.
